Essay Types

Descriptive Essay

Descriptive essays are usually aimed at creating the impression of person, place, or object. This essay form includes concrete details to invite the reader to the visualization of a subject. Supporting details presented in a particular order (left to right, top to bottom, near to far, clockwise, etc.). The movement pattern reflects the sequence of details that felt through sensory.

Expository Essay

This essay explains the subject to the reader. Usually comes with an explanation of the process, comparing two things, the identification of causal relationships, explaining with examples, dividing and classifying, or defining. The order of explanation is very varied, depending on the type of expository essay is made. The process essay will present chronological order (by time); essay that compares will explain with examples; comparison or classification essay will use the order of importance (most important to not important, or vice versa); essay cause and effect is impossible to identify a cause and predict consequences, or vice versa, starting with the result and look for the reason. Narrative Essay

Describes an idea in speak way. The incident described is usually presented in order of time. Persuasive essay makes change readers behavior or motivate the reader to participate in an action. This essay to express an emotion or looks emotional. Supporting details are usually presented in order of importance.

Documentation Essay

Providing information based on a study under a particular institution or authority. This essay following the guidelines of the MLA, APA, or Turabian guidelines.

 

An Essay Structure

Basically, an essay divided into five paragraphs:

   1. First Paragraph

      In this paragraph, the author introduce the topic to be presented. The thesis should be presented in short sentences and clear, as far as possible in the first sentence. Next, readers are introduced in the next three paragraphs that develop the thesis that in some sub-topics.

   2. Second to fifth paragraph

      Third paragraph is called the body of an essay that has the same structure. Thesis supporting sentence and arguments are written as the analysis by looking at their relevance and relation with each sub topic.

   3. Fifth Paragraph (final)

      The fifth paragraph is the conclusion. Rewrite the thesis and sub-topics that have been discussed in the second paragraph to fifth as a synthesis to convince readers.

 

The steps to make essay

    1. Determine topic

    2. Make an outline or outline of your ideas

    3. Write your thesis in brief and clear sentence

    4. Write the body of your thesis:

        * Start with the key points

        * Then create several sub-topics

        * Develop sub-topic that you created

    5. Make the first paragraph (introduction)

    6. Write the conclusion

    7. Give a final touch
